New Bedford Man Dies at House of Correction
A New Bedford man is dead after being arrested on drug charges.
According to the Bristol County Sheriff’s office, 39-year-old Alan Gomes was arrested last Tuesday for conspiracy to distribute heroin in a school zone.
Gomes was being held in the medical unit of the Bristol County House of Correction Friday night, where he was found dead during a routine check.
Foul play is not suspected, and Gomes was alone when he died.
An autopsy is being performed, but it appears Gomes choked on his own vomit.
We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
