A New Bedford man is charged after crashing his car into a fence in the North End.

New Bedford Police say 74-year-old Angel Martoral of Arlington Street was sitting in his vehicle when police responded to the accident at Glennon and Arlington Streets Monday afternoon. A half-empty bottle of vodka was in the passenger seat next to him.

Martoral told police he was injured, and he was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Martoral is being charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.
