A New Bedford man is convicted of 2nd degree murder.

Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn announced 40-year-old Shawn Hunt has been found guilty in the 2003 slaying of 20-year-old Alberto "Tito" Gonzalez in New Bedford.

Hunt was convicted Tuesday afternoon by a jury of his peers in Fall River Superior Court. The jury deliberated for about seven hours over the course of two days.

Superior Court Judge Robert Cosgrove immediately sentenced hunt to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Hunt stood accused of taking part in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Hillman and Spruce streets in November of 2003. Gonzalez was killed as a result of the shooting.

The case was one of the first to be solved by the District Attorney's Cold Case unit in 2009.
