New Bedford Man Charged In Brockton Slaying

A New Bedford man charged with shooting another man in the head minutes after the two had been engaged in an argument has been ordered held without bail.

Jerome Morris pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges including first-degree murder in connection with the Aug. 9 shooting death of Quentin Phillip of Boston.

Prosecutors say the 26-year-old Morris took a gun from a friend and walked up to a car with Phillip parked behind a Brockton bar, then fired through the window in the parking lot behind a Brockton bar.

Phillip's friends took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say Morris and Phillips knew each other and had been in an argument earlier.

Morris is due back in court Dec. 8.
