New Bedford Man Attempts To Swim From Police

A North Front Street man wanted by police on outstanding warrants, took an unscheduled dip into the Acushnet River on Thursday morning.

Police say officers spotted 28 year old James Sylvia walking near the Coggeshall Street bridge on Thursday.

When officers approached him just before 10am, Sylvia jumped from the bridge into the water.

He swam a short distance before walking to shore, but was met by officers who placed him under arrest.
