New Bedford Man Arrested for Nearly Month-Old Robbery

Nearly a month after a convenience store robbery, New Bedford Police have arrested a suspect.

Detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant for 28-year-old Larry Melo of New Bedford after witnesses placed him at the scene of the robbery. Police say Melo robbed the Carvalho Variety Store on Acushnet Avenue at knifepoint on April 23.

Melo was arrested Monday without incident and will be arraigned on charges of armed robbery while masked and confining and putting a person in fear for the purpose of stealing.
