State Senator Mark Montigny says New Bedford is in line to recieve a portion of money set aside in the state budget for an education initiative.

The senate has reserved $2.6-million for the Math and Science Initiative, which awards teachers for having students who score high marks on AP tests.

Montigny tells WBSM News New Bedford students come from diverse, and sometimes difficult backgrounds, and deserve a shot at these resources.

Montigny says language is included in the measure that assures New Bedford will receive a portion of the designated funds.

The senate is scheduled to debate the state budget next week.
