Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting in the city's West End.

The District Attorney's Office says Police responded to gunshots near Liberty and Court streets late Thursday. Officers arriving at the scene found the victim in Harrington Park, across from the Hathaway School, suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as 19 year old Marcel Francios of New Bedford was pronounced dead a short time later.

A small group of friends on Friday set up a make shift memorial for the man they knew as Marcelo Jean-Francios. His friend Rich told WBSM News, Marcelo was not a trouble-maker.

" He was a good kid. He didn't look for trouble and he had two kids. He always came out here to play ball, and there was no drama. I don't know why someone would pick him to do this to." Rich added, Marcelo was scheduled to start a new job Thursday night.

The shooting remains under investigation and anyone with information is being urged to contact New Bedford Police.
