New Bedford Police are investigating after a house was struck by gunfire Wednesday night.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that officers were sent to the area of Linden St. and Reynolds St. after getting reports of shots being fired in the area.

The shots were reported by a 9-1-1 caller and they were also detected by the city's Shotspotter system.

Several shell casings were found on a nearby sidewalk and it was also determined that a nearby home had been struck at least once.

Vicente says it also appears that there was an altercation in the area just prior to the incident and detectives are trying to determine if those two incidents are related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. William Sauve at 508-991-6300 ext. 130 or leave an anonymous tip at 508-961-4584.
