New Bedford High School was locked down after an anonymous call to police.

Police received a call from a passing motorist early Friday about a student waiting at a bus stop with a handgun in his waistband.  It prompted the school to go into their safety protocol. Students remained in their home room while a search of the building was conducted.  Assistant Superintendent Heather Larkin tells WBSM News the school went into emergency mode.

Following a search of the building students returned to class at around 9:25.  Detective Capt. Steve Vicente says there's no evidence at this time that anyone matching the description of the youth was on a bus that dropped off students at the high school.
