A New Bedford man will serve up to six-and one-half years in jail after being convicted of drug and gun offenses.

Thirty-one year old Duran Ferreira pleaded guilty last week to charges of possessing an illegal firearm and selling heroin and cocaine.

The District Attorney's office says Ferreira was arrested in Fall River in August, 2014. At the time of his arrest, police say Ferreria had several hundred small bags of heroin on his person, and a bag of cocaine packaged for sale on the streets.

Officers then obtained a search warrant for his apartment at 31 Cottage Street in New Bedford. There, they recovered $20,000 in cash and a loaded handgun.

D-A Thomas Quinn is pleased to see Ferreira off the streets. The D-A says "the defendant made a large amount of money preying on the addictions of people in Greater New Bedford and Fall River.
