It may become a new expression: an apple a day keeps the firemen away.

The New Bedford Fire Prevention Bureau is receiving a $5,000 grant to purchase Apple iPads. The grant, awarded to Fire Prevention by FM Global, will be used to buy five iPads that inspectors can take with them on-site for data collection and wireless capabilities. District Chief Scott Kruger says keeping with the times is important in the world of fire prevention.

Fire officials say the iPads will greatly increase fire inspection efficiency, and even cut down on time spent on the road.

FM Global is one of the world's largest commercial property insurers.
