The New Bedford Fire Department is taking part in an open house Saturday afternoon as part of National Fire Safety Month. Families can take a closer look at the equipment used by firefighters to combat fires, including suits, fire extinguishers, and of course firetrucks, as well as talk to the men and women about their jobs as firefighters.

The open house runs from 12-3pm Saturday at the New Bedford Fire Department Headquarters at 868 Pleasant street.

Lunch from Papa Gino's will be provided.
