The proposals for  dog parks in New Bedford are continuing. According to published reports,  Ward 5 Councilor Jane Gonsalves is going to ask the city's Park Committee to consider converting the fenced in, currently out of use tennis courts at Buttonwood Park as a space where dogs could be allowed off their leashes. Officials say they envision an official dog park on at least 1 acre of land which would require a paid swipe in card for access and would include parking,  fences, water benches, trash cans and electricty. Other sites under consideration include the former site of Morse Twist Drill, open land near the airport, a space at Riverside Park and a city owned stretch of land between Rodney French Blvd. and the Roosevelt Middle School. Committee members didn't settle on a particular site and are welcoming other proposals.
