New Bedford Crime Rate Drops

Reported crimes in New Bedford fell last year, when compared to 2011. Figures compliled by the New Bedford Police Department show a 4% drop overall, when comparing 2012 to the previous year.

Mayor Jon Mitchell tells WBSM News, he’s very pleased.

Police Chief David Provencher expects the department will keep making progress. He says the additional officers added this week will mean he can fill vacancies in investigative units to crack down on those responsible for committing the majority of crimes in New Bedford.
