NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford couple is arrested on drug charges after being pulled over on a motor vehicle stop.

Units on routine patrol early Thursday morning pulled over a vehicle for a motor vehicle infraction and discovered the driver, 31-year-old Michael Kelly of 29 Locust Street in New Bedford, had a suspended license.

The female passenger, 26-year-old Shannon Barry also of 29 Locust Street, also had a warrant out for her arrest.

During the stop, police also observed drug paraphenalia in the vehicle, and a discovered a small amount of suspected heroin.

Both were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug, as well as conspiracy to violate drug laws. Each also faces motor vehicle infractions as well.

The arrests occurred at about 2 a.m.
