While the police department, the zoo, and other departments will receive funds from the City's free cash account, the school department is being forced to wait for a much needed $2-million.

The City Council tabled the request for the funds Thursday night, citing a lack of response from Mayor Jon Mitchell. Councilor at Large John Saunders says he wants to hear from Mitchell that the school department will pay back the borrowed money before the council approves the transfer.

Councilor at Large David Alves agrees.

Alves says even if the council approves the $2-million, another million will most likely be needed to dig the school department out of their deficit.

The council will take up the request at their next meeting, and wait to hear from Mayor Mitchell in the meantime.
