New Bedford is officially home to a cultural district.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council Board affirmed the designation of the New Bedford Seaport Cultural District, which encompasses about 20 downtown city blocks.

New Bedford's Tourism and Marketing Director Dagny Ashley tells WBSM's "Mid-Day Live" the new title doesn't have any money directly attached to it.

Ashley says the cultural designation is a very powerful tool that will be used towards marketing the city and attracting more tourism.

The New Bedford Seaport Cultural District contains 49 cultural attractions, 29 creative economy businesses, and 18 partners of the district.
