The New Bedford City Council is taking a longer look at a proposal to sell the city's tax title debts to a third party. The council voted Thursday to have its Ordinance Committee re-consider new rules that would help taxpayers that have their liens sold at auction. With regards to knocking down the taxes owed to the city, Councilor-At-Large David Alves wants the Mayor to target businesses that have the biggest outstanding bills...

Alves also wants the city's Tax Title Attorney, Blair Bailey, and his staff re-instated, to help those property owners with payment plans and other arrangements to pay down their tax debt. The city is owed over 15 million dollars in residential and commercial back taxes.
