New Bedford Businessman Takes Issue With Obama’s Minimum Wage Proposal
During his State of the Union address Monday night, President Obama proposed the idea for a federal minimum wage of $9/hr.
While it may sound appealing to those just entering the workforce, Roy Nascimento of the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce says the mandate would negatively effect a lot of businesses.
Nascimento says if the mandate became a reality, many businesses would either have to pass the cost along to their customers, absorb the costs, or reduce their staff.
He points out Massachusetts already has one of the highest minimum wage rates in the country, $8/hr.
