A couple of animals at the Buttonwood Park Zoo have undergone surgery.

The Zoo's two harbor seals, Yellow and Blue, underwent surgery last week to improve their vision and overall eye health. The surgeries involved removing vision impairing cataracts from the eyes of both seals and the repair of a fallen lens in one of Blue's eyes.

Yellow and Blue are 32 and 12 years old respectively.

Each surgery took over three hours to perform and the Zoo is proud to report that both seals are doing well and recovering from their procedures. The recovery period for the seals is expected to last at least three weeks. During that time, the seals will not be viewable by zoo guests.
