New Bedford Bids Farewell To The Charles W. Morgan
New Bedford’s homecoming for the oldest wooden whaling ship has sadly come to an end.
The Charles W. Morgan has departed from New Bedford State Pier this Tuesday morning after a delay caused by this weekend’s hurricane. The 173-year-old vessel spent nearly two weeks in the city and drew close to 50,000 visitors.
Mike and Wanda Porter traveled from Chicago,IL to see their son, who’s a deckhand on the ship. Wanda says she’s happy to watch him doing what he loves…
The Morgan will now travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy and spend a day there before heading up the Cape Cod Canal to Provincetown.
Following that it will sail to Boston Harbor as part of it’s 38th Voyage.
