BOSTON — Senator Mark Montigny has announced that New Bedford has been awarded $10,000 from the Division of Marine Fisheries' Seafood Marketing Pilot Grant Program.

The grant is being present to the New Bedford Harbor Development Commission for "Moveable Feast: Cultivating New Markets for Underutilized Species." The program focuses on consumer education about underutilized seafood species through cooking classes, educational material, working with retailers to document the local supply chain, and development of a stakeholder group.

“New Bedford has the freshest and best seafood in the country,” said Sen. Montigny, who helped create the Seafood Marketing Program in the Senate in 2014. “Helping educate consumers about the availability of different species makes total sense at a time when popular fish like cod are subject to harsh quotas and federal regulations.”
