New Bedford Police responded to a call of shots being fired Sunday night in the Grinnell Street and Acushnet Avenue area. They found no victim or property damage but State police observed a male fitting the description of the alleged shooter yelling in the street. The suspect, identified as 18 year old Luis Rafael Class of Hillman Street, attempted to escape on foot through Bay Village and the Gomes School. During the chase, Class tossed a loaded 22 calber handgun. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle and police found a single 22 caliber round of ammunition in his pocket. He had no license to carry a firearm. He faced arraingment in district court on resisting arrest and firearm charges.
