New Bedford Scrappers - photo from NBHS[/caption]A group of nine New Bedford High School students has captured the Mass. State Seapearch Underwater R-O-V or robotic compeition, held in New Bedford earlier this month.

The team is called the New Bedford Scrappers, and is made up mostly of juniors and seniors.

Coach Chris Parker says all of the students have their eyes on higher education and careers in engineering.

The Coach tells WBSM News, he gets the most gratification when his students are required to explain their work to real "experts' during the competitions.

Parker says one of the team members is enrolled in night school, but spend three hours a day working on the remote operated vehicles because he loves robotics.

Parker says the team hopes to compete in a national compeition on May 17th in Mississippi.  However the Scrappers must raise about $7,500 to get there.
