The NBA is moving swiftly to punish Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for making racist comments.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced today that Sterling will be banned for life from the NBA and the Clippers organization and fined two-and-a-half-million dollars. Silver said he'd do everything in his power to try to force Sterling to sell the Clippers. The commissioner added he has the full support of other NBA owners in making these moves.

Silver insisted the man's voice on a racially-charged recording released by TMZ over the weekend is Sterling. He called the views expressed by Sterling deeply offensive and hateful.

Sterling's problems boiled to the surface after a lengthy recording of him speaking with his girlfriend V. Stiviano came to light. At one point Sterling told Stiviano he didn't want her to bring black people to his games. About 80 percent of the players in the NBA are African-American. (Metro Networks Inc.)
