A middle school principal from Worcester with a background in urban education has been named  the new Chief Academic Officer for New Bedford Public Schools. 

The School Committee approved the appointment of Jason DeFalco Monday night in a unanimous vote. 

DeFalco tells WBSM News, he's thrilled to be here

Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin says DeFalco will be a huge asset in New Bedford.  She says he has a proven track record in many challenging situations.

According to the Superintendent, DeFalco will be working in the district on a periodic basis till he starts full-time in July.
