City officials cut the ribbon on a new playground in the North End.

The River's End Park is situated in a quiet location on the banks of the Acushnet River, and is aimed to bring children back to basics with play areas made out of natural materials.

Environmental education specialist Tobey Eugenio of Nature Explore helped to design the play space, and says each play station serves a specific purpose.

Children can play with the materials provided, and also enjoy a swingset and a xylophone.

The River's End Park on River Road was funded by an Urban Self Help grant from the state and the city.
