It was November 2016. Republican State Representative Jim Lyons filed a request with the Speaker's office to have a "Celebration of Christmas" on Beacon Hill, with a Nativity Scene! What about the so called and misinterpreted separation between church and state? The Speaker's office told Rep. Lyons that "religious events are NOT allowed."

The staffer at the Speaker's office was politely reminded that there's a very public Menorah Lighting that occurs every year! So, this was brought to Speaker DeLeo, himself.

In the meanwhile, Rep. Lyons submitted an official written request, well within the window of the required time period. After hearing nothing for weeks, a letter from the Thomas More Law Society, and attorney Bob Joyce of the Pro-Life Legal Defense Fund, reminded Mr. DeLeo of their 1st Amendment obligations, and the Speaker's office granted Rep. Lyons request!

That was then, this is now. Proclaiming the preservation of our constitutional right to have the same access to public spaces as secular groups and other religious groups, there will be A Celebration of Christmas on Beacon Hill, Wednesday, December 20th from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at the Great Hall at the State House in Boston. All are welcomed and Merry Christmas!
