Some volunteers with the Fort Rodman-Fort Taber Military Museum believe up to 30 Civil War cannons may be buried around Fort Taber. They're looking for a way to conduct an archaeological survey of the site.

Ward Six Councilor Joseph Lopes submitted the proposal to the City Council this past week. The museum volunteers say they're not looking for city money, but want to create awareness about the site.

Lopes told the Standard Times, if there are cannons there and someone digs them up, they could be a significant addition to the military museum.

Lopes says Fairhaven has its cannons at Fort Phoenix, and it would be nice to have them at Fort Taber as well.
