An hour-long, multi-town high speed police chase has ended in New Bedford.

Scanner reports indicate the chase began in Rochester before 2pm for unknown reasons, as police began chasing a gold-colored Chevy Blazer. The driver was reportedly waving a hatchet outside of his window as the chase wound from Rochester, Marion, Wareham, and eventually looped back towards Mattapoisett, Fairhaven, and New Bedford.

The chase apparently came to an end at Purchase and Sawyer Streets in New Bedford, when the suspect was cornered by police and dragged out of his vehicle. He has been apprehended.

We'll have more information as it becomes available.
