MATTAPOISETT — Five people were sent to the hospital following a multi-car crash Tuesday in Mattapoisett.

The crash occurred on Route 6, in front of Turk’s Seafood. Upon arrival, the Mattapoisett Fire Department says it found three vehicles involved. One had rolled over, and two people were trapped inside two separate vehicles. A total of five people were injured, and the Fire Department says there was a massive debris field.

They say the Jaws of Life were used to remove a door and the roof from one car, in order to extricate the driver of a white passenger car. Firefighters and EMS personnel were able to remove the second trapped victim through a windshield of the vehicle that had rolled over.

Fire officials say Route 6 was shut down for about an hour while crews operated on the scene. All five people involved in the crash were transported to the hospital. There is no word on their condition.
