A major pile up on Route 6 in Dartmouth closed down a portion of the highway for nearly an hour, though officials don't believe the injuries to be life-threatening. 

The incident took place in the eastbound lane of Route 6 in the vicinity of Stan & Paul's, between Hathaway Road and Ryder Street.

Five vehicles were involved and debris could be seen strewn alongside the road.

Rescue personnel were called to the scene at approximately 5:15 PM, according to a Dartmouth Police Department dispatcher.

Portions of Route 6 were closed for nearly 40 minutes.

At least seven people were transported to the hospital, but police officers on scene described the injuries as non-significant.

The crash is currently under investigation by Dartmouth Police.
