The 3rd Annual Mountain Man Competition will be held this Saturday, May 21 at the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club, at 92 Pine Street in Middleboro.

According to South Coast Today.com, the event is family-friendly and is open to the public. Competitors must be over the age of 12 years. There will be first, second, and third place trophies for the men’s division, women’s division, and junior's division (12 to 17 years old).

Last year's events had the competitors and spectators on the edge of their seats.

New events will be added this year to the overall competition. If a competitor is not so strong in one area, he or she might be able to come back in points in another event, since each event scores points for your grand total.

There will be free coffee, tea, and donuts from 7am to 8am. There will also be a $15 registration fee for adults over the age of 18 and a $10 registration fee for 12 to 17 year olds. Registration will begin at 8am.

The events will start around 9:30am (rain or shine), or when all competitors are registered.

A lunch break will take place around noon. The rod and gun club will serve hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers with chips and a cookie for $5. At the conclusion of the events and all the points are tallied by the judges, an awards ceremony will take place with a photo session, and bragging rights granted for the next 12 months until the fourth annual competition is held.

All funds raised will go to the Wankinquoah general fund, which supports sending interested teens to the Conservation Camp during the summer. The fund also helps towards the scholarship program, which deserving high school graduates will be given a scholarship to help out when paying for a higher education.
