One man is dead and another was injured during a motocross event in Freetown Sunday. According to published reports, the incident happened during the spring challenge "Hare Scramble" organized by the Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders at Demoranville Farm, on Chace Road, in East Freetown.

According to the organization's website, a "hare scramble" is a cross-country race where rider speed is the determining factor. Freetown Deputy Fire Chief Clifford Cardin says riders came across an unresponsive rider during the race and alerted his department. When firefighters responded, the victim was found dead, reportedly from a heart attack.

Another rider was reportedly injured after he hit a tree and was removed by med-flight. The deceased is from another state and no further details are available. The Environmental Police are investigating.
