Mosquito spraying will begin later this week in the City of New Bedford.

The New Bedford Board of Health says the spraying program will begin during the early morning hours of Friday, July 5th.

The Bristol County Mosquito Control Project will conduct targeted ground spraying, beginning at 2am on Friday till sunrise.  The spraying will happen at Brooklawn and Buttonwood Parks, Fort Tabor, Hazelwood Park, Riverside Park and the Poor Farm area.

Officials say residents in those parts of the city may wish to close their windows on Thursday night.  They add, mosquito traps are now in place to monitor mosquito populations and to asses the effectiveness of spraying.
