Should Southcoast school districts consider doing away with scheduled vacation times?

With districts like New Bedford, Dartmouth, and Fairhaven already exhausting their five built-in snow days, students will likely spend extra days in the classroom into late June.

New Bedford School Committee member Dr. Larry Finnerty tells WBSM News the snow days have taken precious time away from students and teachers alike.

The school administration may consider holding school on Saturdays in order to make up any more snow days. However, Dr. Finnerty says he would not be in favor of cancelling week-long February or April vacations because many families have already made plans for those breaks.

Finnerty says the decision is ultimately in Superintendent Dr. Pia Durkin's hands.
