Officials on Wednesday offered more details on a new contract agreed to by the city government and the New Bedford Educators Association.

The package is for one year, and pledges 20 hours of professional development for teachers through out the school year.

Superintendent Dr. Pia Durkin says the agreement a game-changer....

The contract also calls for increased compensation: a $500 increase for teachers on steps one-through-eleven, and a $1,500 jump for educators at the top step.

The union also agreed to new deadlines that will allow the school system to advertise vacancies earlier in the year.

The contract runs through June 30th, 2015.
