State Senator Mark Montigny is urging communities on the Southcoast not to catch Olympic fever just yet.

Montigny says the Legislature will proceed with caution when it comes to Boston 2024 and the Olympics, and he urges local communities to do the same.

Montigny says Boston 2024 officials "are going around the Commonwealth as a sales pitch saying they want to locate Olympic venues around the state."  The New Bedford Democrat says there's no guarantee on where Olympic events will be located, and its time for local officials to "slow down."

In recent meetings at UMass Dartmouth, Olympic organizers have indicated they're eyeing venues in New Bedford and Fall River for Olympic events in 2024.

Boston 2024 leaders have said they have no plans to use any public funding to bring the Olympics to Massachusetts.  However according to Montigny, with huge events like the Olympics, something always happens and government must help out.  Montigny says he and many other lawmakers will not support any Olympic plan that includes the use of public money.
