One of the nation's premiere orchestras could soon be performing in New Bedford.

As part of an economic development bill, State Senator Mark Montigny has introduced provisions that would make funding possible for the famed Boston Pops Orchestra to play in the Whaling City. Montigny tells WBSM News the downtown district looks great, and now it needs a big draw.

The inclusion would provide $100,000 to several downtown programs including AHA!, Zeiterion Theatre, Inc., the Whaling Museum, the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and the Art Museum/Art Works to coordinate a Boston Pops concert in the city.

Montigny says after seeing the effect that the Charles W. Morgan visit had on New Bedford, he wanted to keep that same momentum going.
