Senator Mark Montigny has been appointed to two of the top leadership positions in the Massachusetts State Senate.

The New Bedford Democrat was appointed Assistant Majority Leader, as well as chairman of the powerful Committee on Rules Wednesday.

Both positions carry responsibilities of setting the agenda and strongly influencing the actions the Senate takes.

A release from Montigny's office says "being a part of senior leadership gives the senator power to make sure that New Bedford and the other towns in his district have a strong champion in the Senate."
