A real estate specialist with the U.S. Postal Service is looking to relocate services provided at the Downtown New Bedford Post Office on Pleasant Street.

Mayor Jon Mitchell says he's "dead set" against it.

Mitchell says the downtown branch is a central office, with distribution and retail operations, located in a prominent building.

The real estate specialist has been in communication with several city officials, who say the USPS is downsizing, and looking to relocate the downtown workers into a smaller storefront while leasing out the larger building.
