Mitchell Urges Moratorium on Medical Marijuana In New Bedford

Mayor Jon Mitchell says he’s not a fan of government by referendum.
Last November, Mass. voters supported a ballot question that called for the creation of medical marijuana dispensary centers in the state.
Speaking on his weekly radio program on WBSM, the Mayor said voters, sadly, did not have all the information about the issue when they went to the polls.

Mitchell has submitted to the City Council a proposed ordinance that would create a nine month moratorium on medical marijuana centers in New Bedford. He’s hopeful it will be approved.
Mitchell says the delay would allow the state to complete its regulations on such facilities, and give New Bedford a chance to see what other communities are doing right, or wrong with the medical marijuana issue.
