Mitchell To Discuss State Pier With Urban Planners

Mayor Jon Mitchell is attending a planning conference this week in Charleston, South Carolina. The Mayor’s Institute of City Design is part of the U.S Conference of Mayors. Mitchell tells WBSM News, he’ll be meeting with several big city mayors and urban planners to discuss possible future uses for the New Bedford State Pier.

Mitchell says the State Pier, as it stands now, is “woefully underutilized.” With the Route 18 Improvement Project nearing completion, the Mayor says he wants more activity on the State Pier, to give visitors a reason to cross the roadway.
