Mayor Jon Mitchell is pushing for a casino referendum on the November ballot.  The Mayor also favors moving the deadline for applications for a Southeastern Mass. casino to sometime after the November state election.

In a statement on Thursday, the Mayor said he believes the interest of local residents would be best served by a casino referendum on the November ballot, so residents can have their voices heard.

Mitchell says New Bedford continues to have "productive discussions" with casino interests, and a November deadline would give developers sufficient opportunity to bring forward their proposals.
