Mitchell Says Drills, School Security Will Continue

Mayor Jon Mitchell says increased security around New Bedford schools will continue when students return their classrooms following the holiday vacation. Mitchell says increased police patrols around the elementary schools will continue, as well as the uptick in surveillance by School Resources Officers in the high school and three middle schools. And Mitchell says students and teachers will take part in several “drills” designed to keep people safe in case of an emergency……

The increased security was ordered by the Mayor following the December 14 school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.
