Mayor Jon Mitchell is dismissing criticism from the City Council that he's trying to ram through an ordinance to crack down on problem properties in New Bedford.  The ordinance would require property owners  to reimburse the city for the cost of police responding to their property, if it happens more than six times over an 18 month period.  The Councilors questioned why the mayor held a press conference about the ordinance when the Council had yet to act.  Speaking on WBSM's "More Than Just Talk program," Mayor Mitchell said the council knew about the ordinance, and were all invited to the press conference.

Mitchell says the ordinance is needed, and the council should act on it.
