Mitchell: No Syrian Refugees in New Bedford Until We Know More

Mayor Jon Mitchell says he, too, needs to know more about the federal government's vetting process for Syrian refugees before welcoming them in.

"If there is in place some way of vetting people thoroughly so that we don't have sleeper cells taking root in the United States, here in New Bedford or anywhere else, then I'd be fine with it. But they've got to prove to me that that's possible," said Mitchell.

Mitchell statement echoes Governor Charlie Baker's announcement Monday.

Mitchell says in an age of terrorism there needs to be a heightened level of security.
