Mitchell: City Council “Playing Games” With School Budget

The New Bedford City Council has again tabled a request to transfer $3.5 million in free cash, to close a deficit in the School Department budget. 

When asked to react to the City Council's decision, Mayor Jon Mitchell said..."the City Council is playing games again." 

The Mayor says no one is more frustrated with the budget deficit in the school department than himself, school administrators and the School Committee. 

He says now is the time to approve the transfer so teachers can get paid this summer.
