New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell was in Boston this morning, as part of an oral argument session presented to the Federal Appeals Court.

Attorneys Jim Kavanaugh and Stephen Ouellette argued the case for New Bedford and Gloucester at the First Circuit Court of Appeals, in an effort to overturn a 2011 dismissal of a lawsuit filed by New Bedford, Gloucester, and fishing groups against NOAA and their strict regulations on fishing.

Mayor Mitchell tells WBSM News he has a good feeling about today's proceedings.

Mitchell says today's arguments sent a clear message to the Federal Appeals Court and NOAA, saying the fishing industry is willing to fight NOAA's science and regulations that have diminished the fishing industry in Massachusetts.

The Federal Appeals Court will formulate an opinion over the next few months on whether to revisit the lawsuit.
